Phnom Penh School Administrations Urged to Clean-up in Preparation for Reopening

Phnom Penh: Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng has advised 14 district authorities in the capital to start cleaning up schools in preparation for the reopening. His preparation advice came after Prime Minister Hun Sen urged the Minister of Education on Tuesday to start reopening schools with low Covid-19 infection rate. According to the Prime Minister, closing schools for a longer time may put the children’s future in jeopardy.

Governor Sreng has stated on Wednesday’s video conference that the number of Covid-19 cases in the capital is now relatively low. He has credited the swift vaccination campaign leading to the decrease of the infection number in Phnom Penh. With this, the governor says that it is a good sign to start reopening schools, especially in low-risk areas.

The governor has instructed district authorities to ensure schools are being sanitized for the safety of the students against the coronavirus. He is also requesting the military personnel to help in spraying more disinfectants in schools upon reopening. It was confirmed that Phnom Penh Capital Administration has utilized some schools as quarantine and treatment centres for Covid-19 patients. But now, the governor has ordered to transfer the Covid-19 patients from schools to other medical centres for Covid-19.

Phnom Penh’s administration reports that currently, there are over 10 Covid-19 patients being treated at Hun Sen Borey 100 High School and nearly 100 at Chea Sim Samaki High School. The governor hopes that once these patients transferred, the capital can start reopening schools.
